Usually camcorders don’t have firewire cables supplied with them, just USB cables.
Look in FCPs Help menu for troubleshooting guides if you are using a FW cable.

It sounds as if you have a connector missing. are you sure you have the right size firewall cable? wait you said it came in the box. here is a link to a website that has support for this stuff. good luck
